untitled...

Praise God! Delaney's friend went through Judgement House with us last night and made a decision for the Lord!!! Please pray for Sam as she enters this new relationship with the Lord of the Universe, and for Delaney to be the encouragement Sam needs. Also, Timmary's teacher came to JH and made some decision (I'm not sure exactly what yet). I am so proud of Timmary to invite her teacher. I know it made Timmary's day too. I saw her teacher at school this morning, but didn't really get a chance to talk. She mentioned she was going to write a note to me, so I will keep you posted. Please pray for opportunities to continue to share with her about Jesus' love. It was so awesome to see the two people we invited (actually, I had nothing to do with it) come and respond.

It was nice to have my hubby home for the weekend, but now he is off again! The time flew as he put away our pool (we're slow), washed the suburban, coached the twins bball team, took care of other household chores with me and watched the final show of my daughter's school play. It was a busy weekend and I can't wait til he's home again.

Here's a couple of pictures I've recently taken: on the right, my husband after I decided to give a mohawk (very temporary!- we were tempted to leave it like this for Delaney's play and church on Sunday, but thought we'd better not- I really didn't wan't to be seen with him like that! Sorry, sweetie) and below our precious puppy(with the twins- aren't they all so cute?!) , who celebrated her 1st Birthday Friday! Happy Birthday Zoey! (This is for you, Leslie)
Click on her picture to really see how adorable, she was as a puppy!

just for fun

I know, I know, you all wondered if I've dropped off the face of the earth - or at least fell out of the blog world!!! Well, sorry but I've just been busy, lazy, distracted, focused on other things...you pick.

But I did think you'd get a kick out of a taste of Austrian folk music that we heard while on our trip. It was really amazing and different! These two are quite talented and can play 5 instruments (one being the harp - beautiful!) and sing!!! So, enjoy!

The Hills are alive....

After a long, uneventful trip we made it to Munich, Germany, where we then got a rental car (Mercedez, not bad) and drove on the Autobahn for a couple of hours to Innsbruck, Austria. The autobahn was not quite what I expected. It looked like a regular divided two lanes (each way) highway. They do have some speed limits sometimes, but then there are lighted signs above telling you when the speed limit is unlimited. Actually, we figure that's what it meant as we don't know what European signs mean, but concluded that due to everyone speeding up and passing us at this time. So, of course, my husband doesn't have to be asked twice, or once for that matter, to speed up. It was great! I don't know how fast we were going because their cars only display speed using khm. I was wishing they had both so we could know for sure. I just had to look it up. From what I found we were going at our fastest 100 mph!!! Wow!!! This was legal, I'll remind you. When we arrived, I realized everyone at home was just waking up for the day!!! It's weird to be on such a different time zone. Now, I can relate to those of you who have already traveled abroad.

Tuesday, my husband didn't have to work, so we decided (actually more of it was me) to drive to Salzburg where they filmed the Sound of Music. We didn't know what we were doing, but when we got there we found an information booth and went to inquire. The person directed and sold my husband two tickets for a bus tour of the Sound of Music. I am sure this isn't what he really wanted to do, but he ended up enjoying it anyway. We were driven around on a big bus and saw lots of the places where they filmed the movie. It was so neat standing across the lake that was used several times and seeing the abbey and other places. I took pictures, but haven't been able to see if I can get them on my husbands computer yet. It was another long, but fun day!!!

I'll try to post again sometime this week. So long, farewell, alvederzein, adiou....

Here's your chance...

This fall I signed up for my church's FAITH class, which is our program for visitation. Something new is that we need two prayer partners; someone who is willing to pray, encourage and follow up with me as I go about visiting Monday nights for 11 weeks, telling people about Jesus. I was trying to think of who to ask and thought I could use this forum of my closest friends to find a partner. So, if you are willing I would greatly appreciate. If not, it's ok too. Just let me know if you'd be willing and we'll go from there. Thanks a bunch!

URGENT REQUEST

UPDATE and PRAISE!

Little Oliver is doing better. He is breathing on his own and playing in his crib. He had a viral infection he couldn't fight on his own that caused the breathing problems. He will hopefully get to go home tomorrow. Thank you so much for the prayers. Prayer really does work and God loves to make himself known when we call out to Him. I am sure this is a great testimony to the family of God's love and care for them.

Please pray for my sister in law Lynsey's nephew, Oliver. He is about 10 mos. old and was airlifted to Seattle (3 hours away) because he stopped breathing. Right now, I hear, he is on oxygen and if they remove it he cannot breathe on his own. How heartbreaking!!! Pray for his parents too dealing with this, especially the mother who is expecting another baby. Thank you and I'll update you as I can.

got energy???

Is it only me who has a serious energy drain? Lately, it seems I have little energy and wonder what's going on! I know I've been busy, running around like crazy since before school started, but aren't we all busy??? Of course!!!! So, I'm just wondering if anyone else has this problem, or if you have any suggestions for energy boosters besides energy drinks. I really don't want to be dependent on those ;)

On another note, I was reading in Luke 18:18-19 where a rich ruler was asking Jesus how to have eternal life. What struck me this time was how the man called Jesus "Good Teacher" to which Jesus replied,"Why do you call me good? No one is good - except God alone." Certainly, his point was that since Jesus is God, He is good, but it just made me think how many times I have told my kids they were "good". Now, I have definitely tried to say they did a good job rather than simply telling them "good girl", but I know at times that is exactly what came out. If God alone is good, (and He is) then we should really be careful at how we use the word good. After all, how many people if polled whether we are good or bad, would say they are good? I would venture to say, most, Christian or not, would say they are good. The fact is, like it or not, we are actually bad at heart, which backs up the Bible in many places like Romans 3:23. I'm not saying we tell our kids they are bad, but I think they innately know even as little kids that they aren't all "ok" on there own. And you know, that IS A GOOD THING. It just backs up once again, the fact that we all need a savior. It gives us a chance to share that, yeah, on our own we're hurting, but with Jesus we can be healed.

You asked for it...

For those of you who wanted this fabulous recipe, here it is:

Roast Beef sandwiches:

1 3-4 lb. roast (the kind that will shred, I think it's shoulder or chuck, I don't know)
1 package of Knorr vegetable soup mix
1 cup water

Trim fat off roast and place in crockpot. Pour soup mix and water over. Cook on high for 8 hours. Shred meat, you can just do this in the crockpot itself. Serve on potato rolls ( best buy at Costco) with cream cheese as a spread. The cream cheese is also really yummy when mixed with green chilis. Sometimes we have cheesy potatoes (my mom's recipe) with it or another side salad. This makes quite a bit. Enjoy!

First you see it, now you don't...

As you can see, my house is under construction! Yeah! This is day 3 and I am so proud of my man for all the hard work he and his dad, brother and friends did. It is really weird to walk out to the garage and see the sky. Talk about a skylight! Hopefully, this weekend the floor (above the garage) will go up and the framing as well. I'll keep you posted.

Sanctuary vs. survival

I know Jill has been talking about creating a sanctuary at her home, but right now I think this fall will just be survival mode for us due to several changes (albeit temporary) in our lives. While I spent the last week working at our churches preschool (it went quite well), my husband started ripping off our roof today for an addition we've been planning. Yeah! So, he will be pretty busy in his free time and I'm not having all the free time I thought I would. Now, I am not complaining. I am glad to help my friend by filling in for her, and of course, I am not complaining about the addition. It's just that I think my sanctuary ideas will be put on hold for a while. In the meantime, I still hope to create as much of a calm atmosphere amidst the construction chaos around us.

Personally, I always find it much easier to have this calm in the fall and winter, especially when it starts getting dark early. The kids will be in the house, and if we're home, we can actually do more activities together as a family than it seems we do in the summer. I love having each of just read our own books with some quiet time, or play a game together, or watch our favorite family show, The Waltons.

Directing my paths...

My life is taking a new direction temporarily... something I certainly didn't plan.... something out of my league and comfort level...but, nevertheless I have accepted the challenge...

As of this post, I am the fill in preschool director at our church. Our current director, who I worked with prior in a classroom, is on a leave of absence. Her daughter, Ana, is in a hospital two hours away with kidney failure caused by of all things a bad case of flu! She is doing better each day, and they expect a full recovery, but this could take a couple weeks to a few months. So, of course, please pray for a quick recovery for this little girl.

And please pray for me as I fill in. I must say I love it when God works in our lives in ways we never would imagine. While I thought I would have "free time" this fall, the wonderful Lord had other plans for me. Of course, I never would have wanted someone's suffering to turn into my employment, but I am glad I can help at this time. Had this been last year it wouldn't have been possible, but since my youngest will be in first grade, it will be do-able.

This all just reminds me of my life verse, in my sidebar, Proverbs 3:5-6. And I believe with God's strength, I can do whatever He calls me to.

Praise!!!

I have a praise!!!
Today we parked our van up the street hoping someone would see it as they were looking for yard sales. This is how Ginger sold her van...at her own yard sale, so I thought we'd copy although we didn't have a yard sale. Anywho, we got a call at 4:50 this afternoon from someone wanting to test drive it. Ten minutes later, my husband was taking this family for a test drive and they wanted to buy!!! We did come down in price, but I just didn't want to take any chance at not selling it soon. Thank you Jesus!

Delaney's Room

Delaney's room before:

And after:

Since it seems redecorating children's rooms is a common theme recently, I thought I'd post before and after pictures of my daughter's room. Her "old" room was a two tone blue/white with pink hearts at the top for a border and a Cinderella I painted using a transparency. As you can imagine, at age 12, Cinderella has lost all appeal for my daughter. She was ready for a more grown up room. She and I were both happy with the results, and I hope it will last for the next 6 years at least!!!

things heavy on my heart

Ok, I've hesitated posting this, but I really could use your prayers. I've looked at some of your blogs and I know you need prayers too, as there seems to be tough situations everywhere. I do not mean to minimize them. In fact, as I read, I thought maybe I shouldn't post this because my problems seem to be minor or less important than others, but still I have my needs and requests. And if you all don't care, then who would? You are, after all, my friends and sisters, so here goes.

We have had one thing after another happening the last four months. Mostly, with our minivan, but also with our house, and my husband's broken foot. I have tried real hard not to complain, but to be thankful that at least Jesus has provided through each of the situations/problems. Well, here we go again. The van is once again messed up!!! As I write, my husband is out trying to figure out what to do with it as it is stuck at the Wal-mart parking lot. Really, he needs prayer as he is getting real discouraged. And that is not like him. It's more like me. Thankfully, we both aren't in the dumps together! I know God will again provide as always, just as he promised. I keep reminding myself that He will take care of my needs each day, and of the verses where Paul said he would rather have just what he needs, nothing less and nothing more. Maybe that's the lesson in all this. Things would be going fantastic if it weren't for all the repairs we've had to pay for lately. Anyway, would you just pray for my husband and myself that the van gets fixed(without a big expense) and that we won't be discouraged? It would be greatly appreciated. ~ I will remember to pray for those requests you have as well.

My take on "it's not fair!"

Okay, so I haven't blogged for a while now, a whole month in fact! But, I have had this one brewing for some time so here it is.

I know you can relate to an almost nonstop, daily dose of the "it's not fair" whine, at least that's how it seems sometimes. My kids do say thank you and appreciate most of what happens in their lives, but it seems the "fair monster" does like to pay frequent visits to our house and disrupt our peaceful lives.

Well, last year at school as I was picking up the girls, was one of those times. As we were waiting our turn to leave the parking lot, the complaints began...This time I thought of a new come back. My usual (from Lori) "the fair's in August" and one from when I was a kid "who said life was fair" were losing their power (did it ever work anyway? hmmm) Anyway, I was looking out my van window and saw all the parents picking up their kids in wheelchairs. Our school has a new class of kindergartners with special needs. These are mostly kids who probably will never walk, among other difficulties. A light bulb went off in my head as I thought, hey this is a great teachable moment. I decided to seize the moment, and tell my kids "Ya know, you're right. Life is not fair...it's not fair that those children out our window can't walk, it's not fair that some people are blind, it's not fair that other kids have lost their parents in tragic accidents." You know it helped me too, to take my mind off how my life isn't fair (because it doesn't go my way all the time - I mean isn't that why we say it anyway, we just aren't getting our way) and appreciate all the blessings God has given me. Fair really might not be that great after all, so I don't know if I want fair... I much rather prefer God's mercy and grace to fair anyday. Besides, often times my life isn't fair, it's much better than that!

Something blog worthy

Something really cool happened to me today. I was at the grocery store at the check out, when the cashier, a guy, started a conversation with me. He told me how he'd been out on the floor working earlier and just wasn't really having a good time. (I'm thinking to myself...okay, what's the point - maybe he's just being friendly, I don't know) Anyway, he then tells me he noticed my shirt (the one that says Faith, Hope, Love on the front), while he was working in the store and I must have walked by him. I hadn't noticed him. He said that it really was an encouragement to him and put his perspective back in the right place. He shared how he was just caught up in himself, which he admitted is not so great, and that the words on my shirt snapped him out of it. Cool, huh? We talked for a minute while I paid for the groceries and he told me to have a blessed day. I left the store smiling thinking how cool God is to use such simple things as my shirt with God's words on it and then to cause me to get in that checker's line so he could end up encouraging me. I mean, this guy had already been blessed by the words whether I knew it or not, but then me getting in his line allowed me to be blessed!!! God is so awesome!!!

Goals for the summer...

I am really starting to get excited about summer. I've been outside more, walking the dog, noticing the sounds and smells and sights of summer, and it makes me happy to think of longer, lazier, fun-filled days. At least, that's the plan. However, if you're like me, too much fun leads to grumpy bears. There is so much truth in the fact that we need work and a purpose to find fulfillment. Boredom is a sure fire cause of complaining and discontentment, and while my kids might beg to differ that they would be completely happy with no structure for the summer, I've been a mom long enough to know that just won't work. So, in order for this to become reality (the fun part I mean), it means I need some goals and plans to help each of us in our house find the balance between work and play. After all, it would be far too easy for each of us to just take the lazy part and make a run with it. I think my kids would be TOTALLY happy to only wear a swimsuit and pajamas all summer, going from bed to the pool while only coming in for sleep and food. They would also then feel justified in not needing a bath! But of course, if you know me, I am just not that laid back or "nice", so my kids will have to adjust to the summer schedule. That's where my goals come in...on my list are a few things:

* doing a specific Bible study with the girls in addition to our regular Bible reading
* reading The Light and the Glory for Kids-to teach American Christian history
* reading a historical fiction book on someone who made a difference for God, I'm thinking of reading about George Muller
* not letting my kids brains go to pot, so there will be worksheets (but not too many)
* participating in the library reading program

I think this will keep us pretty busy, along with the swimming, but hopefully, we'll have great times learning together as well as having fun!!!

Blessings

I have to take a moment and "brag" on my eldest. She has really been a blessing to me this week. I took her to lunch today since she got out of school early, and she really was sweet and appreciative, which is so refreshing ya know. At lunch, she got our drinks, mine first, then got extra salsa for us and even my take home box. She seemed to enjoy serving me. Wow! I know we all have good days and bad days, but I can really see God at work in her life, especially with her parents. Sisters, that could be another story, but she did even buy an bigger slurpee with her own money just so she could share with her sisters. I know these may seem like little things, but to me it shows her heart is becoming more like Jesus, little by little.

I've also been so blessed watching the Borms' and their newly adopted children. They are sweet, loving kids and this has all just touched my heart. Delaney, my eldest, has been touched by them also and has already gotten the privilege to bond with them Wed. and then get to watch them tonight for a couple of hours. I told Shana it was interesting that she called tonight because as we were going to lunch today, Delaney asked when we'd get to see them again. I told her I wasn't sure. Little did we know Delaney would get to watch them tonight! When I told her, she jumped up and down. Shana was pleasantly surprised by her enthusiasm. I am thankful for Delaney to get this opportunity to come alongside in a very small way at helping this family and learning about the gift of adoption at the same time.

Kids and shopping...

Today, I took the girls shopping at Target and decided to see if there was anything on clearance, since I can't refuse good bargains. ( Last night, I got Delaney a dress, and two shirts for $18!) Well, today there wasn't much on sale, but the twins found dresses, not on sale, and shoes also not on sale. I had just bought them a new pair the other day, at a good price, so they didn't need another pair, but how do you explain that. Especially when it was a pair their friend down the street has. I feel like I can't take them with me, because I will have to say no a million times! Add to that, the fact that their closet is full, maybe not all new clothes. In fact, most are hand me downs from their sisters or ones that still fit from last year. Of course, my fashionable "inner man" wants them to have the latest, but it just didn't seem necessary. Thankfully, there were no fits and we left without any purchases.

Next, we went to Winco since our cupboards have been bare for some time. Unlike fun clothes shopping, I really don't like grocery shopping. I think mostly because then I have to plan meals. you may have noticed there's no Monday menus on my blog!!! Oh well. At least, the cupboards are now full :)

Variety is the spice of life...

This weekend was a mini retreat for ladies at our church. The subject: our personalities, based on the common four types: popular sanguine(it's all about fun), powerful choleric (leaders and those who take action), perfect melancholy (likes details and plans) and peaceful phlegmatic(need I say more).

Well, I pretty much already knew what mine was, melancholy (in case you didn't know), but I was wondering what yours is? It was interesting to learn how to relate to different people based on their personalities and your own. It's also neat to know that each of us is so special and we all have strengths and weaknesses. One of my weaknesses is being pessimistic. So, I can tend to focus more on my weaknesses and think I have no strengths, which isn't true. I work REALLY hard and being cheerful and giving thanks always. But I never equated this with my personality. I just thought there's something wrong with me. While God does want me to be full of hope, the fact that I'm not always doesn't have to make me feel bad, I just need to take that time to lean more on the transforming power of Jesus in my life.

I am thankful for each of my friends and their different personalities. You do add spice to my life, that could otherwise be blan. So for that I give thanks!

What will they think of next?.... Never mind, I don't want to know

Today, on Klove radio, I heard that British scientists are considered, if approved by the country, to merge tissues from human embryos with those of the chimapanzee. They would call it a humanzee!!! Crazy!!! Of course, they want to do this for the study and transplanting of organ/organ tissues. Anyway, they also said that if this passed it could/would cause a problem of bioethnics: would the "creature" be subject to human rights!!! Outrageous....I don't consider myself that smart, but come on! What are they thinking? Actually, I know...they aren't. Lord, please help us from messing with your creation.

A Word of Encouragement

My new Bible study class is on soul-stirring conversations with God. It's by Priscilla Schirer and the goal is to continue developing our relationship with God, through meaningful conversation. Anywho, the verses this week are on the tongue and how we should use ours to edify, encourage and build each other up. From my weekly verses, you can see this is a goal and need in my life. So, I thought I would share this story from a devotional I read earlier this week.

There was a little boy taking a walk with his mom one day. He noticed all kinds of treasures, rocks mostly, to pick up along the way. By the end of the walk, his arms were loaded and, actually, he had to repick many up as they had fallen along the way. He made it back with his treasures, but upon opening the door something caught his eye. He immediately dropped all the rocks and such, for they had lost their value. His eyes were fixed on something much more important than rocks, his daddy!!!

We need to remember this when we carry burdensome treasures around. We have a heavenly Father, if we have a relationship with Him, who is desiring us to give Him our burdens or treasures every day. Sometimes, we need to do as the boy did: drop everything and run to God. If one doesn't have that relationship yet, they can! For God longs that each of us come to him for the only relationship that will never end. This can be found only in the One who has always been: Jesus Christ. So no matter where we are, there is hope! Next time I see you I hope we each have empty arms, because Jesus is carrying the load for us, so our arms will be available for a nice hug! Lovingly, Tricia

Monday, April 21, 2008

I thought this was incredible. Every new parent should be required to watch this before they have kids, not to put fear in, but to remind each of us that life is a gift from God. No matter if we live 99 days or 99 years, we should cherish each and every life.

7 things...

Well, I feel challenged by Jill and Jamie, so let's see what I can come up with...here are 7 things about me:

1. My husband and I knew we were "right" for each other after about 2 weeks.
2. I graduated in the top ten percent of my class.
3. I met one of my best friends when I was 10 mos. old and we haven't lost touch.
4. My first car was a '65 mustang, that my mom got when she was a teenager. My husband hates that I sold it for something modern(with air and FM radio)
5. I love peanut butter and chocolate ice cream (Umpqua brand at Winco)
6. I used to work at GE Capital in the collections dept. across the freeway from the Anaheim stadium (home of the Angels). I loved this job!
7. My first job was at Baskin Robbins. I worked there for two years, became a shift manager and made cakes...I started when I was just 16 and quit after graduating highschool. It was great, except for the extra pounds gained.

Well, I guess that's it. My 6 word memoir... I am not perfect, but loved....

Very encouraging....

I just watched a very disturbing youtube about Oprah and "her" new church. Let me know if you want to see it. I can email it to you. Anyway, as I was getting the girls ready for kindergarten, I decided to ask them a few questions. Where is God? Is God in a flower? Even (for you Ginger) is Jesus perfect? Could He have sinned? They answered beautifully assuring me that God is not a flower and yes, Jesus is perfect so he could not have sinned. I asked why is there bad in the world. Answer from Merrily: because Adam and Eve sinned. Then, Merrily said, " Mom, why are you asking us baby questions?" I LOVE IT!!! WOW!!! I told her some people unfortunately don't know these simple things so we have to tell them. I really was just making sure I was being clear in teaching them, but she sure blessed me with that answer.

God bless!

I am honored that you all are thinking of me this week. Thanks girls! We had a great time at Disney and walked our bums off. We got all the girls on the "big" rides at Disney and they all had fun. I think the last day was the best as we were more relaxed and hit the favorites one more time. Wed. (today) we drove to San Diego and the Wild Animal Park. We saw some wildlife, but the kids (and ourselves... aching feet) were so tired that we didn't enjoy it as much as we could have. There really was just a lot of walking. Jeanine, I know what you mean. We could've used a day of nothing too. We left early and came to our hotel and took naps and then a swim before dinner at Macaroni Grill...yummy restaurant. Tomorrow is Sea World, which should be great. I was thinking of you tonight as you're at coffee night. So, what was the discussion. I am dying to hear!!! As nice as vacation is, it will be good to be back.

Just an update

Well, we made it to CA safe and sound on Sat. afternoon! It is very nice here, so nice that I've forgotten it's only April... it feels like summer...nice!!! We did have a scary moment when we saw smoke coming from the hood of the van. We pulled over, turned off the air vent and it stopped. Today, we tried to use the air...it gets warm quickly when you only can crack the windows because you're going 70 on the freeway... well, it made a strange noise right a way, so we immediately turned it off. I guess we'll deal with that when we get home. Tomorrow, it's off to Disney! We'll say hi to Mickey and Minnie for you...

Out of the loop....

Well, it has been a loooonnnng week without my computer. After many problems, it is finally back in order. Thank you Lord Jesus! I went to all your blogs and honestly felt a little overwhelmed. I've missed so much!!! And since we are going on vacation, I don't have time to respond to all of it. Plus, since I will be gone, I am sure I am going to miss much more. Oh well, such is life.

Like Jill, I too feel that I could make a full time job out of blogging, spending probably too much time here. So, I will refrain for now and return when I get back. I will pray for you as you come to mind while I'm away. If I come to mind, pray for me too. Any time God puts someone in my mind or on my heart, I always take that as a hint from Him and pray.

Just to update, my verses for the next few weeks are Philippians 4:4-9. It's kind of long, so look it up if you don't already have it memorized. I know you'll recognize it!

Love, Tricia

I love this! Enjoy...

This is a poem Ruth Graham wrote when she was young and I love it!!! I too like writing poems occasionally, so here is hers and then I'll post mine.

"It isn't your gold or silver,
your talents great or small,
your voice, or your gift of drawing,
or the crowd you go with at all:
it isn't your friends or pastimes,
your looks or your clothes so gay,
it isn't your home or family,
or even the things you say;
it isn't your choice of amusements,
it isn't the life you lead,
it isn't the thing you prize the most,
or the books you like to read;
no, it isn't the things you have, dear,
or the things you like to do,
the Master is searching deeper...
He seeks not yours, but you.

It's your heart that Jesus longs for;
your will to be made His own
with self on the cross forever,
and Jesus alone on the throne."

Again, I love this so much, I am thinking of framing it in my house. How often, I lose sight that Jesus is just after ME and my heart! Wow, to be loved that much, blows my mind away!

Here's mine, written in 2003:

A blanket of love is what we all need,
safe and secure from all life's misdeeds.
A place to find true peace and security;
a place to lay down all our past history.
At the feet of Jesus is where we will find
the warmth of God's love and salvation to all mankind.
He came as a baby and grew to be a man,
with just one mission, redeem mankind, was God's only plan.
So on the cross He died for you and me
and rose again so we could be free.
To all who call on Jesus from heaven above,
He lovingly wraps in His blanket of love.

Verse for Week 4

Proverbs 17:22
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Oh, to always have a cheerful heart!!! This is something I hope for all of us in my house and everyone. Who wants dried up bones anyway...

Just an Idea

Jeanine's post talked about getting kids to do chores, so I thought I would share one thing we do in our house. Getting the kids to pray at dinner time used to be feast or famine. They would all want to pray or no one would! I'm sure you understand. Anyhoo, my friend Jill shared that her kids each have a special day of the week, so I thought I would use that too. Each of our four girls have a day of the week starting from oldest to youngest. For instance, Delaney is Mon., Timmary is Tues., skip Wed. since we eat dinner at church, Merrily is Thurs. and Cassidy is Fri. On their day, they set the table and then get to pray. Over the years I've added clearing the table and sometimes doing the dishes. Eventually I would like to add helping to prepare the meal and even planning what to have. This works out great, no fighting and I have help four days a week!!!

Answered Prayer

My oldest is spending the day at the mall for her school's science fair. So, yesterday she came home from school and was gathering what she needed, her science project notebook, being an important item. She frantically came to me saying she couldn't find it. Yikes!!! For once, praise Jesus, I didn't freak out. I remained calm and went over possible places for her to look, to which she said she'd already looked in those spots. I then asked if she had prayed for God to help her find it. Yes she did that. Ok, so I prayed too. About a minute later, I thought of her laundry basket in her closet that had a pile of who knows what under it (it was also time to bring her laundry down). I suggested she looked there too. What did I hear next? "FOUND IT" from up the stairs! Yeah! God is good and He cares about every detail of our lives.

I'm so excited!

Three weeks in and I'm still excited about the verse thing. This week's verse came up in Sunday night discussion group and I thought I could use it as a reminder to help me speak encouragement to those around me.

Ephesians 4:29

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Please pray for me, as this is easier said than done!

Verse for the week and a quote

Psalm 68:4
Sing to God, sing praise to His name, extol Him who rides on the clouds, His name is the Lord, and rejoice before Him.

I am so proud of all of you attempting to hide God's word in your hearts! Give yourself a little hug from me!

Albert Einstein said, "Only a life lived for others is the life worthwhile." That should be our goal, to live for Jesus and others.

Last night, my husband took his four princesses to the Father/Daughter Ball and had a wonderful time. It all started at 4:00 p.m. when I attempted to curl 3 heads of hair, as you know one doesn't need any extra curls. By the time I was done, the first two girls curls had already gone limp and I had broken out in a sweat. Oh well! It was time to get dressed. My mom and Jerry came over with wrist corsages, that I am not sure stayed on all night, but they seemed to appreciate them. Since grandma was there, the girls bows would all be perfect. I don't think I will ever tie a perfect bow! Anyway, after pictures and kisses they headed off in their limo, or Dodge Grand Caravan rather. One last good bye and warning they better be home before midnight. I went back in the house to quite a disarray of clothes, shoes and other things thrown around the house from the frenzy of getting ready. Whew! I can't imagine four future proms or weddings. But now, it was my time. I went to a friend's for dinner and then shopped the night away, and actually looked for things for myself! I think I must have asked my friend if she thought they were having fun a thousand times. When we were reunited that night, it was so fun to hear what they girls thought of the evening. They had so much fun. Daddy actually danced with each of them and I think it made them feel really special. I am so glad my husband took this time with them and I am sure it will be a memory that will last a lifetime.

On a roll!

Ok, this is my 3rd day in a row blogging, a new record. I just had to say what a blessing I had today and last week meeting with friends for lunch. Just taking a couple hours every so often to socialize with my sisters in Christ is such a blessing. It picks me up and gives me a boost I often need, especially when my husband is traveling and adult conversation is lacking. So, thanks to my friends who are willing to take time out of their schedules too to have some down time.

I love watching LifeToday on my local TBN station! I wish every show were like it because they have all the great christian authors and speakers that inspire me, but then maybe I wouldn't do anything except watch tv. Nevermind... Anyway, today was a new person I had never heard of who has had an extreme challenge. She shared her story how when she was 29, engaged and living for God her life suddenly changed. One night, in bed, she apparently dove off the end of her bed, literally, and woke up paralyzed! She doesn't remember if it was a dream or what. Her roommate, a nurse, found her and got her help. After some time, it seems she has use of her arms. Amazingly, she is a joyful person and her fiance decided he would not leave at the time of her greatest need. Today they have a son and she speaks at women's conferences and such. Wow! How many times do I get bent out of shape over the smallest things? Well, I hope I will think of her (when things get "tough"), who said she could choose to be bitter but what kind of choice would that be?

If you can tune in to that show, again I highly recommend it. Best thing is it's only 20 minutes long. It's like my midmorning devotional.

Blessings!

What if?....

Hey ladies, I don't know about you, but I was very inspired last night hearing Dr. Jerry Pipes speak. Everything he says is encouraging and helpful. One thing that really stood out was his dedication to memorize one verse a week for the last 35 years!!! Wow! I love how he emphasized really learning God's word verse by verse. I am afraid it is an almost lost discipline for many of us. But knowing this alone does me no good. So here's my idea: what if we all took this seriously and learned a new verse every week. We could even do this with our kids and/or husbands. Wouldn't that be an awesome way to spend time together as a family?!! And if you're like me, I learn much better when I speak something, which is always more fun when there's someone listening and learning with you. We could even take this and share with each other the verses we are learning when we get together for coffee or whatever. That would be great accountability.

Here's our verse for the week:

1 kings 2:3 "Observe what the Lord your God requires: walk in His ways, and keep His decrees and commands His laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go."

Growing in His grace!

Drum Roll Please...

And the winner is... Jill!!! I really wasn't sure if anyone would've known this. I read the quote in Ruth Bell Graham's book It's my turn. Yeah, for you. Now, we just have to find time to get together for coffee...hmm... sounds like an excuse to get together.

Guess Who?

The following is an excerpt from a journal I've read of someone famous. I was surprised that this person could have felt this way (on motherhood), as I envision this lady to being someone who must be practically perfect, (no, it's not Mary Poppins) due to the fact of who she's married to. Furthermore, I admit and confess to feeling exactly the same way at times. Anyway, thought it would be fun if any of you could figure out who it is. If you can, I will treat the first right guesser(?) to coffee ASAP. Here goes:

"I am a weak, lazy, indifferent character; casual where I should be concerned, concerned where I should be carefree; self-indulgent, hypocritical, begging God to help me when I am hardly willing to lift a finger for myself; quarrelsome where I should be silent, silent where I should be outspoken; vacillating, easily distracted and sidetracked. There it is. All that I am not, He is; all that I am and should not be, He forgives and covers. But this remains: I am not big enough for the job ahead of me. Not big enough, or strong enough, or wise enough, or loving enough, or selfless enough, or anything enough."

I love this!!! Thankfully, Jesus is big enough to cover all of us in all areas!

Blessings for your day!!!

Tea for Three!

Merrily and Cassidy each received a china tea set from my mom for their birthdays this year, so one of their favorite things to do is have a tea party. Today was one of those days. Merrily asked if we could have a tea party for lunch before kindergarten. I hesitated and thought to myself, "no, I really don't feel like doing that now. It's more work for me than what I feel like doing" but, I decided it was worth it. What mom wouldn't be honored to have such a special time with her girls?! They really do love it and enjoy practicing their "tea manners" so, I set to preparing lunch and tea while they set the table special for the occasion. It turned out to be a sweet moment with my daughters, and one I hope they will remember when they are grown.

So, what do you think?

I decided to change my blog name to something more sophisticated and more closely reveals my heart. (For now, my address will remain the same, as it's too complicated for me to change now, at least in my mind.) I make so many mistakes every day, that if it weren't for the love of Jesus, I would have no hope. But praise God I do and you can too, if you trust Him as your savior. All my love as we journey together into ... graceful living!

Living for God

My devotional today struck me today as being very applicable. It started with the question," Are you determined to have your own way in living for God?" How's that for an opening! Pretty much straight to the point, huh? So, it made me think. I want God's will, but how many times do we want to live for God in our own way? Let's face it, most of us have an idea of what WE think our lives should be like; what we do, where we live, who we hang out with, but do we really give ourselves completely to God to live for Him His way? Well, it gives me lots to think about.
How about you?

Back on track...I hope!

Well, I am back, I think!?! Actually, I was going to post this a couple of weeks ago, but since I was planning a trip away, I thought I better take care of that business instead of spending time here. We watched a video from Pastor Jim Cymbala at the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church in NY and it was very moving. He read the scripture where Jesus overturned tables and said that His house should be a house of prayer. Wow! I must admit, I never thought much about it really. To me, God's house is where I go to worship and praise Him and fellowship with other believers (totally Biblical, right?) But Jesus himself referred to His house as not these things, but a prayer house. So, why don't we spend more time there praying? Why do I not feel the need to attend our own prayer meetings? Why do I not even tell my friends how they could pray for me or vice versa? Well, it made me think anyway. So, here is what I propose: why don't we call on each other more regularly with our prayer needs, whatever they might be. It doesn't matter that for the most part my needs are not physical (the easiest and most heard requests). No mine are definitely more spiritual and emotional and dare I say, mental. Afterall, the battlefield is the mind. How about yours? Please join me in praying about this. You can start by lifting me up for guidance with my girls, one of which has been struggling with turning in assignments on time, and by praying I will be a great wife, even though I would love to have my husband home everynight and not travel (by the way, there might be a new lead in this area!). As I speak, colds are going through our home, so I do pray we will all be well so we can go to church together.

I know you all probably do pray, but the reminder to pray specifically always helps, doesn't it? And I will return the favor. I can picture each one of you right now and pray can't I ? Let me know specifically how I can pray for you and I will consider it an honor.

With Christ's love, Tricia
